How many women over 50
will break a bone due to Osteoporosis?

According  to a study published by the Surgeon General in 2007,
one out of two women over 50 will break a bone
due to Osteoporosis
in their lifetime.

And men? Every 5th man, too.

Now the good news:
  • Already in 1980, NASA published that rebounding strengthens the bones and increases bone density.

  • Clients of us experienced that with ten minutes of daily rebounding, their bone density came back to normal and reversed their Osteopenia within one and a half years.

  • In Germany, medical studies done by the "Aertegesellschaft fuer Praeventiv Medizin" have shown that Rebounding can stop the decrease of bone density due to Osteoporosis. (See videos below)

As the video is in German, here a summary of the spoken text:

It is generally known that movement against gravity benefits the creation of new bone cells.

Dr. Joachim Schulz, leader of the study, says: "The bouncing on a high elastic rebounder (they used the Bellicon Bungee band rebounders for their study) concerns the whole body. Each and every cell is trained: the muscles, the tendons and, the bones. At the end of the down movement when the body reaches the the lowest point, the cells are pressed together and during the movement upwards, all cells are loosened up and relaxed. The result is a training of each and every cell of the body."

All participants of the study had their bone density measured in the beginning and in the end. They had lower bone density than they should have according to their age.

Then on the video clip you see how the group of participants is trained. They start the exercises slowly giving the body time to adapt and gain balance. Notice how their feet stay in contact with the mat. The participants trained three times a day for ten minutes over a period of three months. That program was the basis for the study.

The participants who were interviewed in this video say that they were astonished how much they enjoyed the workout on the rebounder and what a great result in toning their body they achieved.
They also said they became more joyful, that their blood circulation increased, that they felt more fit and that they could easier handle stress. Also their coordination and reflexes improved - which is a great preventive against breaking bones.

At the end of the three month study, Dr. Joachim Schulz said that they know now for certain that the loss of bone density for all participants had stopped. And in an upcoming study which will be done over a longer period of time they want to proof that only by bouncing on the rebounder, the bone density will increase again.

Rebounding against Osteoporosis: Twice a week for eight months.
A year ago, Waltraud Mueller could nearly not move any more after having had a vertebra broken due to Osteoporosis. When she started reboudning, she still was in pain. It was her physiotherpist, Dr.  Paul Klammer who introduced her to rebounding. Before he let her mount the rebounder, he did a serious physical examination. Like with all of his clients, he gave her a customized training program.

Especially for Osteoporosis patients, rebounding has turned out to be very successful - which is now proven through medical studies. Dr. Paul Klammer says "The change of gravity (which occurs in rebounding) is what makes the difference. The change between pressure and release causes a tremendous increase in metabolism in every cell: In the respiratory system, in the heart and circulation, in the muscles and soft tissue, in the cartelage of the  joints and of the discs in the spine and of course in the bone itself. (When rebounding) the bone receives pressure followed by release, which supports his metabolism and helps to become stronger and stabilise itself again."

What is possible with this gentle methode shows Gertrud Soil. Two years ago, this 86 year old woman could nearly not stand any more after having had a fracture in her femur (due to Osteoporosis). She started a light training and bouncing on a rebounder. In the beginning she was hesiting to go on this unstable thing. And today? "It does me very well. The training here is first class. It gives me strength. Everything is fine again."
All patients start very slowly, have to find their balance first. The exercises on the rebounder loose up the body the soft bouncing helps them getting a better posture and to increase their balance. That diminishes the risk of falling. Paul Klammer says: "When Osteoporosis patients come, they are very tense, they are in pain and are very inflexible. They don't dare to do anything and the rebounder brings them very easily in a soft movement. Usually they are astonished they are able to rebound, that the pain goes away and that it is so joyful."

Waltraud Mueller is so happy about her new "bone work" that she has decided to get her own rebounder so that she can have a daily bouncing at home. As in the fight against Osteoporosis is the saying "Keep on going".
